We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate to join our interdisciplinary project aimed at revolutionizing ECG diagnostics through AI-powered solutions. You will focus on the gap between innovative technology and real-world healthcare applications.

The PhD candidate will work from the UMC Utrecht, engaging with diverse stakeholders such as general practitioners, ambulance services, and patients. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research with significant societal impact, improving diagnostic accuracy, enhancing care pathways, and fostering seamless collaboration in healthcare. Applicants should have a background in medicine, technical medicine or healthcare technology, with strong analytical and communication skills.
Key responsibilities include identifying and analyzing user requirements, contributing to the development of tailored AI algorithms for different healthcare user groups, and validating the solutions in clinical settings.
The total project duration is 3 years and is partly funded by Health Holland and the European Union. As this project is funded by a public-private partnership grant, you will also work closely with the private partners (Cordys Analytics B.V.) involved in this project.
For training purposes, the PhD candidate will be affiliated with the PhD program of the Utrecht University Graduate School of Life Sciences. The PhD program provides a broad selection of courses and organizes various scientific workshops and colloquia.

The candidate for this project has a Master's degree in Medicine, Technical Medicine or similar. The candidate has a clear research interest in the developments and applications of deep learning in the medical environment.
In addition, the candidate has:
- High proficiency in spoken and written English and Dutch.
- Good communication skills and you are driven by scientific curiosity.
- Highly motivated and capable of working within a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Proficiency in Dutch is required due to active involvement in stakeholder meetings and clinical studies.
Ideally, the candidate has:
- Experience with designing and doing clinical research.
- Experience with using deep learning.
- Experience with medical statistics.

- A PhD candidate will be scaled in the OIO scale and a postdoc candidate will be scaled in scale 10.
- Salary increase of 3% from July 2025, according to the collective labor agreement (cao).
- Year-end bonus of 8.3% and holiday allowance of 8%.
- Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 70% of the monthly contribution.
100% public transport reimbursement. Are you coming on foot, by bike or by car? You will then receive a reimbursement of € 0.18 per km (by car up to a max. of 40 km one way). - Possibilities to develop yourself personally and professionally.
